In this book, the global nature of film genres is highlighted, focusing on the documentation of the School Movies genre. This documentation takes into account the most important theories of film genre, and thus identifies the basic semantic and syntactic elements of School Movies that, combined with the elements of the film production process and the interaction of multiple users of the film medium, provide a holistic interpretation of the global nature of the genre and a satisfactory record of its creation and evolution.

These models propose the cine curriculum of the genre, which, although following the general principles that have been set, differs depending on the country of origin of the selected films. The case studies represent the entirety of global film production, which is divided into films originating from the United States, the former Soviet Union, the European Union, and world cinema. Within the framework of the documentation of School Movies, a separate reference is made to the subgenre of School Bullying Movies, films that have school bullying as their central theme.
