The engraver Fotis Varthis, inspired by the ballads, created nine engravings that speak about the manifestations of female pain. The archetypal motifs of sacrifice, separation, abuse, violence, and anticipation are placed in a timeless and placeless artistic environment, maintaining the intensity and lyricism of the folk song, with reference to the narrative element of the ballads.

Chrysostomos Tsaprailis was invited to retell these stories, but now starting from the engravings and not the folk songs. He thus created a series of nine stories that converse with Varthis's work, but convey his own approach to female pain.
