An eighteen-year-old student, confined to a college in Thessaloniki in the early 1950s, realizes that the end of the school year will also mean the final separation from his beloved teacher, the 28-year-old American Al Sawyer, who was indifferent to dry English grammar teaching and spoke to them about the magic of art, inspiring the whole class. In an attempt to preserve something of him, he asks Al to tell him his life story, during the last six afternoons before he leaves for America, so that he can one day write a book about him.
The dense and rich text by Vasilis Vasilikos moves on multiple axes: a portrait of two men in search of identity, the narration of two adolescences full of confusion and contradictions, a hymn to male friendship, a commentary on the redemptive power of writing and the constant return of memory, reflection on the manifestations of masculinity and the boundaries of male sexuality.
