Description

The Atomos Ninja V 5" 4K HDMI Recording Monitor records and plays back videos in DCI 4K, UHD 4K, and HD resolutions thanks to specially designed mini-SSDs. This monitor can record Apple ProRes Raw in resolutions up to DCI 4K24 or UHD 4K30 directly from the sensor on selected cameras. It features a 10-bit FRC IPS display with a brightness of 1000 cd/m², making it suitable for both indoor and outdoor use. The AtomHDR technology allows you to accurately control log gamma footage without flat and washed-out images or use a LUT to compress the dynamic range and colors. The monitor supports popular log formats from Sony, Canon, Panasonic, ARRI, RED, and JVC cameras. The settings only affect the viewing and not the recorded video.

Designed to withstand tough productions, the Ninja V has an aluminum chassis and is powered by an L-series battery. Additionally, it offers exposure analysis on the screen, framing, focus assist tools, and anamorphic de-squeeze function.

The Ninja V is designed so that HDR functions are accessible through the MON buttons and ProRes options can be selected from the arrows in the upper left corner. It can record on both AtomX SSDmini and standard 2.5" SSD drives, up to 150 minutes of 4K video on a 1TB drive.

It's worth the money, especially if you have a Z6 - Z6ii to shoot nlog 10bit 422 like a pro without using the mediocre flat profile. The difference is night and day, even in 1080p, in terms of colors and especially dynamic range. But what they don't tell you is that the box doesn't come with anything else except the recorder, so you have to spend extra on SSDs, batteries, chargers, etc. In short, if it's for professional use, it's a no-brainer, always with an external microphone and away from the person because you can hear the fan.

I have been working with the Ninja for two years now and I have to say that it is, if not the best, one of the top monitor/recorders in the market. It is cost-effective for what it offers, with very good build quality. It has never let me down, even in high temperature conditions, with the screen's 1500 nits shining for hours. It has a 5-inch screen for flexibility, it writes to any (affordable) SSD, supports HDR, and has RAW, Prores, H265 codecs, and very good and stable software that is frequently updated. If your need is maximum 4K 60 recording, it is the way to go.
