Description

...Summer of 1922. The betrayal had been completed. The Pharisees of the time and the anti-Greek mob said to the Great Powers, who played the role of Pontius Pilate, for the Greek population of Asia Minor, "Crucify them". The disaster fell upon Ionia and it was now evident that the candles of its Churches were ready to be extinguished...

...With great difficulty, they arrived in Smyrna, where chaos prevailed. People were running here and there, while gunshots were fired and the gangs had started looting and setting fire to the Greek neighborhoods...

...A whole week filled with anxiety passed in the cemetery. No word about water, food, or their needs. And yet, they endured. One day they heard someone shouting: "To the ships to save ourselves! The gangs are burning the neighborhoods of the Greeks and the Armenians! They want to burn us alive or slaughter us when we leave here to save ourselves." Exhausted from anxiety, fatigue, and hunger after so many days, they emerged from the graves and moved towards the coast with whatever strength they had left. Desperation, the fear of death, the effort to stay alive were imprinted on everyone. One could trample over another if they thought it would save them. And there, on the beach, Angeliki lost Evaggelia. The fires deliberately set by the Turks and the stampede of people that made the earth tremble drove her into panic...

The drama of the Greeks of Western Asia Minor unfolds through the pages of the historical novel by the journalist and writer from Asia Minor, Giorgos N. Papathanasopoulos, "Days of Revelation in Ionia".

In addition to Magnesia, the story takes place in Smyrna and other parts of Ionia: Sivrihisar, Phocaea, Aydin, Menemen, Kasaba, Kasabovasi, Horoskioi, Parsa, Tsopanisia, and Murantie-Hamidieh are some of them. Historical figures of the time also play a role alongside the characters of the novel.
