Having this motherboard for six months now, combined with a 5700x Patriot 16GB 3800 OC (stock xmp 3000) 6700XT, I have to say the best things about it. It doesn't understand anything even though I have the PBO processor at maximum pulling 150w under load, I have never seen the VRMs exceed 40c, it can easily support even the 5950x, it is generally very difficult to push it to its limits.
I have it with LED strips which don't always work, sometimes they just randomly turn on again.
In conclusion, it is an affordable and sturdy motherboard, visually beautiful, user-friendly with a simple BIOS, strong VRMs, and can support any Ryzen 3000/5000, 6 layer PCB for good RAM overclocking
I have had the motherboard for 4 months now, and so far I haven't had any issues. I believe the BIOS menu is much better than Gigabyte's (I had the B450) and I would like more ports. Those who had issues from the comments I read either received a defective product or have no idea about PCs and are complaining (for example, about BIOS updates even though it clearly states which CPUs it is updated for).
Very good, with facilities for fans, LEDs, USB, etc. It's an investment for several years since it supports next-generation AMD. The BIOS is very easy and, together with MSI's program, you can easily adjust everything. The LEDs all synchronize immediately regardless of the platform that supports each hardware, even the LED strip I installed. Okay, it doesn't have many ports at the back, but you can add a hub at the back and front, and it's more than enough. The lighting is okay, not very powerful, but it doesn't bother me personally
For its price, it's impeccable and handles all Ryzen CPUs and overclocking with proper cooling thanks to its good VRM. The only downside is the lack of more USB ports on the back, but with so many headers on the motherboard, one can add brackets even with USB4, which has an internal header.
I bought it to build a new PC after many years with an AMD Ryzen 7 5800X 3.8GHz 32MB cache. Well, the on-board display port DOES NOT work if there is no processor with integrated graphics, which mine does not have, so you need a graphics card.
Good VFM at 145 euros for a B550 as it essentially offers everything I needed (PCIe Gen4, Front & Back Type C, 2 M2 slots, 2.5Gb + 1Gb LAN, etc.) at a reasonable cost.
Equally important is that the VRM config easily handles even an OC 5950x without any issues.
What I would like and it doesn't offer are:
1. More USB ports at the back, even if they are 2.0.
2. Although the audio chipset is ALC1220p, it lacks a headphone amp, either for the rear or front headphone jack.
3. While it has a debug LED for troubleshooting, it lacks the post code.
Some may say that asking for all this at 145 euros is too much, but seeing the B550 Steel Legend at 160 euros with +2 USB ports, post code, and a headphone amplifier, I think the extra 15 euros are worth it.
I give it a 3* rating due to the problematic USB ports which made the sound on my Rift S problematic. The bios is the latest v81 available. And it's not just my problem - if you do a simple search for "b550 USB issues" you will understand the extent of the problem.
Otherwise, it came to me Ryzen 5000 ready which was helpful, the bios is good overall. The manual is informative - and with a little attention, anyone will be able to understand it.
Temperatures and specs are as advertised (good).
- The package drivers were not working, I had to download the new ones.
- It did not automatically detect that I did not have a graphics card installed, causing various issues (games, limited colors, ethernet, windows).
- It seems to work better with the 7-7-2021 version of the BIOS.
It required some searching, but everything turned out fine in the end. One would expect the company to have tested these things or provided some instructions
It was purchased as an upgrade from x470-f gaming. I have it with a 3800x and after a few days of use, I can say that I never regretted this purchase. 10 degrees lower in both CPU and GPU. If I had a better case, the temperatures would be even better because the heatsinks are metallic and huge, so the better the airflow, the better the temperatures. The VRM and PCB are simply amazing. 10+2 phases with 60A Intersil powerstages.
Now onto RAM overclocking. I managed to run 3733mhz with c16 and 1.41v stable. Unfortunately, the chip I have cannot run above 1867mhz fclk. It didn't bother me because the difference is small. I was also able to put an offset vcore of -0.1, which was impossible on the x470 I had.
For this price (160), there is nothing better. With a little more, you can go for the gaming carbon that has wifi, otherwise there is no reason, just as there is no reason to go for x570 as the only extra they have is more pcie-4.
Purchase at 165 euros. Probably at the moment I am writing this review, there is no more balanced choice for the R5 5600X/5800X/5900X. I went with the 5900X which works perfectly with out of the box PBO - (power boost overdrive) and hits 4.65ghz, which from what I've seen in benchmarks, even users with the ROG STRIX X570-E GAMING struggle to achieve the same clocks (and the ROG STRIX costs 300 euros - almost double) which makes me believe that the 5950X, with or without overclock, will run just as smoothly and beautifully (good luck to those who want to cool the 5950X with a 16-core overclock...).
It has everything the average/advanced user/gamer needs. Amazing performance/VRM/user-friendly BIOS. If you want crash-free gaming with the best performance for your hardware, you can't invest anything less and you don't need to invest anything more than the 165 euros that MSI asks for this specific motherboard, which in my opinion is worth that money and more. I can't find any flaws with it, and those who say that the BIOS could be better may be used to a BIOS from another manufacturer because I found it perfectly user-friendly (and if you want to make a few extra settings, you can watch a tutorial on YouTube, and if you can't manage, you can send an email to MSI and they may guide you, it's not rocket science but it's not designed for our grandparents...).
The build quality, in my opinion, reminds me of much more expensive models that usually cost over 300 euros. If something goes wrong or your system is not stable with this motherboard, your suspicions should first go to the quality of the power supply and not the motherboard, which, I repeat, is excellent in my experience. Personally, I had a budget for a more expensive motherboard, but for me, it would be a waste of money because there is no feature that I would want and the Tomahawk doesn't have. Among other things, I consider the sound card of the MAG B550 Tomahawk perfect (ALC1200, why shouldn't it be...).
If you want to experiment and do extreme overclocking on the CPU and RAM, you could possibly go for more expensive motherboards, but it's not worth it in my opinion to spend more money and deal with manual overclocking on Ryzen - maybe some of you know better than me, of course - because they don't have a satisfactory increase in performance like the equivalent "K" series Intel CPUs. I ended up with XMP profiles for the memory and stock settings for the CPU, which, as I said, hits 4.65ghz, as much as my cooling can handle (Noctua NH-D15).
For those who are torn between this and the MPG B550 Gaming Plus, I would recommend without a second thought the MAG B550 Tomahawk because although it may be 30 euros more expensive, it has a much better sound card and the build quality is clearly superior. It has a 6-layer PCB and behaves much better thermally, not only compared to the Gaming Plus but also compared to all motherboards in the same price range and below. Thermal behavior is very important in gaming, especially for us who live in Greece, high temperatures lower clocks, reduce the lifespan of the hardware, and BSODs come much sooner and more frequently if we ignore the factor of heat.
The only real competitor in this price category is the Gigabyte B550 Aorus Pro, which has similar features (slightly better sound card - although I have read complaints about EMI noise in the output - and having heard the sound from the B550 Tomahawk, I find it hard to imagine a cleaner sound than the Aorus, more USB ports - which personally I didn't need - and possibly better overclocking for memory above 4000mhz). BUT... it has slightly worse reviews regarding DOA, and because the last thing I would want to happen in a build (purely in terms of inconvenience) is a faulty motherboard, that's why I decided to play it safe with the Tomahawk. However, it's worth checking out the Aorus as well, but I haven't tried it so I can't have an opinion. Also, to conclude the review, if you remember the comparisons between B450 and X570, the differences were significant, but now the differences between B550 and X570 are negligible for the average user/gamer. (That's why the prices of B550 are almost +50% compared to the corresponding B450).
If you want to run memory at 4000+mhz, you should know that on this motherboard, the speeds are only supported with the 1st of the 4 options below:

2DPC 2R max speed 3600 MHZ
1DPC = 1 DIMM PER CHANNEL (meaning 2 modules-2 channel configuration)
2DPC = 2 DIMM PER CHANNEL (meaning 4 modules-2 channel configuration)
1R = 1RANK or single-ranked modules (meaning the memory has chips placed only on one side)
2R = 2RANK or dual-ranked modules (meaning the memory has chips placed on both sides)
In any case, I choose 1DPC 1R dual channel to have maximum overclocking capability.
It's very good and worth its money. It was my first PC build and I had a hard time putting it in the tower, but if you've built a PC before, I'm sure it will be easier. It's also great that it can handle high speeds for RAM, so if someone wants to make an overkill PC, they don't need to spend $400 on a motherboard, they can just get this one. The RGB lighting is also good because the parts that don't normally light up are covered by the motherboard. To cut it short, get it now, you won't regret it.

I bought it for the Ryzen 5 5600x and it works great with 16GB Dual channel at 3200mhz XMP. This particular motherboard has one of the best VRM designs, especially for the price. It has good build quality with a simple design, two M.2 heatsinks, a USB Gen2 header, and plenty of headers for whatever you need. It also has a nice hidden illumination on the chipset heatsink. The BIOS could be better, but it gets the job done. The only thing I would want is a couple more USBs in the back.
At this price, it's the best. Its VRMs are compared to higher-end motherboards, the build quality is exceptional, and MSI's BIOS is one of the best in my opinion. It also has features like front-facing Type-C USB that other motherboards in its category don't have. You won't find better for the same money
Clearly, the best motherboard on the market right now. I bought it for €165 and I don't regret it at all. It will cover you for everything, from gaming, streaming, multitasking, video editing, etc. It is literally a beautiful motherboard with exceptional performance. The BIOS is very easy to set up and it has a very good build quality. I don't think you need to go for an X570 if you have this motherboard. It has PCI-4 for the graphics card, which means you will be covered for several years from now. I have it on an R7-3700X and it's a dream. I recommend it to everyone
I believe that this motherboard is worth more than the b450 tomahawk. Although it costs a little more, it has a lot to offer. Support for the next generation Ryzen, much better temperatures which helps with overclocking, pcie gen 4 for nvme and graphics cards, and support for USB type C. It's a pretty high-quality motherboard. It also comes with an extremely useful manual which you can also find online. If the price bothers you, check out the b550m mortar. Essentially, it's the same motherboard in a smaller size with slightly fewer features.
Very impressive proposition, good construction and very strong overclock. It presented a black screen of bios problem during boot, which went straight to the operating system without the possibility of accessing the bios. Reset was attempted but did not work. After some research, the bios was flashed (to the latest version) using the button on the back panel and a USB stick, and the problem was solved. Otherwise, very satisfied. Ryzen 3700x, 32gb 3200Mhz RAM, 1050 Ti :(
Edit: It seems that it was not a bios issue but rather an HDMI issue with the graphics card. There seems to be a predetermined HDMI port that can be used to access the bios. If someone experiences a similar issue, they can try using a different HDMI port on the graphics card or even the Display Port. Additionally, if the processor has integrated graphics, it's worth trying the HDMI on the motherboard. At least in my case, it helped.
The motherboard has reached a new level, with 10+2+1 power phases, passive cooling on the chipset, "pig" cooling on the vrms, with a maximum temperature under stress test on the 2600x at 50 degrees and 45 on the chipset. The components are the same in 83 percent of the motherboard as the corresponding x570. It really has nothing to envy from a 570 and even more so a low-priced one. If you're thinking about it, it's better to get an expensive b550 than a cheap x570, and with this one, no one will regret it. You can even run it with overclocking and 3950x without hearing a peep.
