Patriot Viper Steel DDR4 DRAM memory is designed for sleek aesthetics and performance, making it an ideal choice for building a new PC system or for upgrading your system memory.

DDR4

DDR4 is the fourth generation of RAM (Random Access Memory) technology for computers. It replaces DDR3 and offers increased speeds and larger capacities.

Specifically, DDR4 offers operating speeds ranging from 2133 MT/s up to 4800 MT/s and CAS Latency (CL) from CL 9 up to CL 22. Its capacity has been increased up to 32 GB per memory module.

When choosing speed (MT/s) and capacity (GB), higher is generally better, but it's important to ensure that our motherboard supports the selected speed and capacity. For CAS Latency (CL), lower is better.

The Patriot Viper Steel operates at a speed of 3200 MT/s with a CL16 and 32GB of memory per module.

Compatibility

DDR4 technology is compatible with specific motherboards and CPUs. For instance, DDR4 is compatible with Intel CPUs such as Skylake, Kaby Lake, Coffee Lake, and the latest Intel processors, as well as with AMD Ryzen and Threadripper CPUs.

However, to ensure compatibility with your motherboard, you need to check if your motherboard supports DDR4 technology from the manufacturer. Compatibility is dependent on the CPU platform and type of motherboard that you are using.

XMP & EXPO

(XMP & EXPO) is a technology that allows us to boost the frequency and performance of our computer's memory without the need for manual adjustments. (XMP/ EXPO) works by storing pre-defined memory settings in the SPD (Serial Presence Detect) of the memory module. These settings can be automatically applied by the system's BIOS when XMP is enabled.

Vengeance LPX memory supports (XMP 2.0) technology and offers:

  • Speed (XMP 2.0): 3200 MT/s
  • CAS Latency (XMP 2.0): 16-20-20-40
  • Voltage (XMP 2.0): 1.35V

    I build several PCs in a world where people do not know how to build their own, and I use these specific ones very often and I am satisfied.

    They are definitely more expensive than the equivalent G.Skill ones, and they are slightly slower due to timings, as well as they can be overclocked less.

    However, unlike the G.Skill ones, which I had to return 5 out of 7 kits because they were defective (usually one of the 2 sticks was dead), the Patriot ones have not caused any issues in dozens of systems so far. So it's worth the extra 5 euros and the 1% performance loss.

    Just 2 days ago I bought and received the following memories in combination with 16gb memories (which already existed from the same company but a different model! I was surprised because even though they were synchronized at 2666mhz, they easily entered xmp profile 2.0 through the motherboard's bios (Asrock B450 Pro4 + Ryzen 5 5600G + Gigabyte gtx 1070 g1 gaming). There haven't been any Blue Screens that I read in reviews, nothing at all (maybe the voltage that was automatically set through the xmp profile on certain motherboards was to blame and you just need to manually set it yourself (advice for anyone who has such a problem, it might solve it because I have encountered a similar memory set from another company in the past). Fully satisfied with the performance of the memories as well as the proper functioning of the system!

    I have the memory for a year. It hasn't presented any problems.
    It is clocked quite low on its own (2666 Mhz) so it needs overclocking to reach the advertised 3200 Mhz.

    I am using it in an AMD system with an Asus motherboard (b350) and the XMP profile doesn't work correctly, resulting in a blue screen. It is probably the motherboard's fault in this case. However, if someone increases the soc voltage to 1.1 and the memory voltage to 1.40 (as it should be in RAM overclocking), then it works fine at 3000 Mhz. I haven't tried the 3200 Mhz yet.

    In short, overclocking is not easy / I do not recommend it for inexperienced users, especially if you have an Asus motherboard.
