In 1936, the Civil War breaks out in Spain. When Franco prevails, hundreds of thousands of people take the path of self-exile, crossing the Pyrenees into France. Among them is the young pianist Roser and the brother of her deceased beloved, the doctor Víctor Dalmau. To survive, they enter into a marriage that neither of them wanted.
