In this book, I recount the essence of my memories and the events as they unfolded during the Civil War in the village of Vavouri in Epirus. I narrate our journey to Albania and later our life in the village of Beloiannis in Hungary.

My memories had not been written for so many decades out of fear or perhaps even shame. My intention was always to share them. I simply wanted to write down what had been hidden in the back of my mind for many years. What I wanted was to capture it on paper, but I was afraid to pick up the pencil. I had to prepare myself psychologically to subject myself to this ordeal. I started many times, many years ago, only to stop after writing the chapters, having no idea how to approach the subject. I abandoned it as too complex and particularly emotional. These feelings were only temporary.

I wanted to leave all this experience behind, to erase it from my mind and in the end to die with it. Don't ask me "why now?", but it took a lot of courage, more than I imagined, to start the writing process...
