Description

Could a girl have written such a book? Many readers asked this very question after reading Emily Brontë's "Wuthering Heights," not only in her time but also later. A dark, passionate, agonizing, and highly captivating narrative that unfolds in the heart of Victorian England, in the wilds of the north, in haunted places. A fierce love dominates, one between the tender yet rebellious revolutionary Catherine and the eerie, rough Heathcliff, with the ghosts of the two lovers haunting those who visit their places. The conflict between civilization (with its oppression and hypocrisy, but also its own violence) and uncontrollable nature is also another important element of the novel, which seems to be ahead of its time. When it was first published in the mid-19th century, it sparked many discussions and disagreements, shocked and stirred the waters. However, today it is considered an undisputed classic read with an unexpectedly modern, contemporary air permeating it. Hence, "Wuthering Heights" inspired films and TV series, musicals, ballets, operas, sketches by Monty Python, and songs by Kate Bush.

It is worth someone reading it. The description of the destructive and at the same time redemptive love of Heathcliff and Catherine captivates the reader.
