The creators of the great idea gave the team a name that suits a true queen! The name is AEK, which stands for Athletic Union of Constantinople. First and foremost, the people who inspired the idea of creating AEK aimed to revive and preserve the athletic tradition of the "Queen City". Union because under its shadow, the hopes of uprooted souls dreaming of the reinstatement of Hellenism within the walls of the City were united. The entire Greek element, united and deeply believing in the homeland and religion, was reborn at the offices of HAN in July 1924.
