Description
This book attempts to provide a clear, comprehensive, coherent, and holistic view of the central aspects that contributed to the "Incomplete" way of building and functioning of the Eurozone, highlighting, on the one hand, the determining factors of the creation and intensification of growing macroeconomic imbalances and, on the other hand, the political tensions and social impacts that arise, both within individual member states and within the Eurozone as a whole. Going beyond the "narrow" examination of the economic content, special emphasis is placed on interdisciplinary analysis, based on a combination of variables that encompass political and social characteristics, leading to the conclusion that expanding macroeconomic imbalances inevitably lead to political conflicts, which simultaneously spill over into the social field. Therefore, it becomes apparent that political developments and decisions are directly linked to choices of economic policy and social changes, creating a sequence of interaction and interdependence.
This textbook does not assume that the reader is familiar with the knowledge objects that are analyzed and does not require specialized knowledge of Economics and Political Sciences or any other academic field. It is addressed to anyone interested in delving into the "Incomplete" way of building and functioning of the Eurozone and the consequences that arise at an economic, political, and social level, constituting, on the one hand, an important reference source and, on the other hand, a teaching manual for university studies, both at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The analysis and examination of events and data are comprehensible and at the same time structured in such a way that even technically economic issues are described and analyzed in a simplified and easily understandable manner through empirical examples. The originality of the textbook lies in the fact that it offers a different perspective, examining in various ways the systematic study of the evolutionary process of European (Monetary (€)) Integration, extensively using a combination of economic, political, and social factors, through the tools: (a) of Macroeconomic theory, (b) of Political Science, International Political Economy, and International Relations, and (c) of elements of Sociology, based on Interdisciplinarity criteria, where they contributed, both individually and collectively, to this particularly original, daring, and unique international endeavor of the ("Incomplete") Construction of European (Monetary (€)) Integration.
