The Nikon D780 incorporates a 24.5 MP full-frame CMOS sensor with backlighting and an Expeed 6 image processor. The sensor offers very good light sensitivity, providing ISO between 100 and 51200. The D780 offers you everything you would expect from a DSLR of this level and even more!

Nikon D780 DSLR Camera

The full-frame DSLR camera D780 includes a fast and exclusive hybrid autofocus (AF) system for Live View shooting, as well as a fast and reliable phase-detection AF system for viewfinder shooting. In Live View, the highly accurate AF system offers you 273 AF points on the sensor and eye-detection AF. When shooting through the viewfinder, you can take advantage of Nikon's powerful 51-point AF system with top-notch tracking capabilities.

AF for viewfinder photography

The 51-point phase-detection AF system is sensitive down to -3 EV, while the bright optical viewfinder allows for sharp real-time confirmation of the action you are framing. Track subjects with lightning speed, even in low light conditions.

Always Locked

During shooting with the viewfinder, the 51-point AF system allows you to adapt instantly with quick switching between advanced AF modes. Take advantage of the fast focusing and impressive background isolation in the group-area AF mode.

AF for Live View

When shooting in Live View, the combined 273-point AF system covers approximately 90% of the frame horizontally and approximately 90% vertically. The tilting screen frees up angles and offers touch shutter release and AF.

Clarity in any lighting conditions

The 273-point combined AF system is sensitive up to -5 EV when shooting with a lens that has a maximum aperture of f/1.4 or larger. For scenes with really low light, you can enable the low-light AF function and shoot at up to -7 EV with AE.

Capture the Look

When taking photos in Live View, the intelligent combined AF system with Eye Detection AF can lock onto the subject's eyes and stay locked. Whether it is an individual or a face in the crowd. You choose which eye you want to focus on using the multi-selector, and the camera maintains focus even if your subject is in constant motion.

Reveal all those important seconds

Enjoy burst speeds of up to 7 frames per second (fps) with AF/AE tracking when shooting through the viewfinder. Achieve up to 12 frames per second (fps) when shooting in Silent Live View mode. You will get full-resolution photos, even when shooting in RAW.

High-Speed Frame Capture

Do you want to highlight motion through motion? Shoot in Live View and you can capture Full HD (2 MP) photos at up to 120 frames per second (fps). Alternatively, you can capture 4K/UHD (8 MP) photos at up to 30 frames per second (fps).

You are free to create as you wish without anything holding you back. The extensive weather sealing and the durable magnesium alloy body ensure that the D780 is ready for any location. The dual slots accept fast UHS-II SD cards, which easily handle the camera's fast burst speeds and keep the internal memory empty. The deep grip and long battery life make all the difference in long photo sessions.

Settings

The basic settings can be quickly adjusted using touch operation or command dials. When shooting with manual focus, the camera's electronic rangefinder helps you confirm whether the selected focus point is in focus or not.

Confirmation

The 0.70x optical viewfinder offers you a wide field of view and 100% coverage. The large tilting 2359k-dot LCD screen allows you to quickly confirm shots with a double tap to see a 100% view of the image area.

The in-camera retouch menu makes on-the-spot cropping easier and now allows you to crop horizontally or vertically. You can delete unwanted shots from a single card slot or from both cards simultaneously.

Shutter speeds from 1/8000 to 900 sec give you greater flexibility to play with time. Easily sync Nikon's Speedlight flashes at high speed for moments of epic action. Alternatively, slow everything down for dramatic light trails and nightscapes.

    I have the d750 and the d850. I believe that the d780 combines all the positives of the two previous cameras. Its best feature is that it takes photos in live view very quickly! It is the most remarkable camera if you don't want to change systems and switch to mirrorless, it's worth the upgrade!

    I had the 750 and I changed it for the capabilities it has in video. Very good video, better AF than the 750 and the 810 (in live view), better white balance than the 750 but not than the 810, and overall a very good all-around camera. Come and watch the video and read to have a complete opinion, never be influenced by one review.
