Description

The 3rd edition of the pocket legislative collection "Maritime Law" emphasizes the following two points:

- firstly, it focuses on the main legislations of national and international maritime law, which not only occupy the largest part of the academic teaching of the subject, but also constitute the reference basis of Greek case law;

- secondly, specifically the texts of international uniform law are presented in (unofficial) codified form.

The section of national legislations includes: the Maritime Code, Law 3899/1958 on preferred mortgage, special provisions governing ship registration and the status of ships as foreign assets, and Law 959/79 on maritime companies.

International conventions have a central place in the collection: firstly, because they progressively cover a larger part of Greek law (in recent years, our country has shown increased sensitivity to the ratification of international maritime conventions), and secondly, because they regulate key institutions in the maritime field. International conventions are thematically classified, from the general to the specific: maritime transport, limitation of liability, pollution, conservatory arrest, maritime assistance and collision, seafarers.

Since the majority of these have been repeatedly amended by Protocols, they are presented in codified form, so that the reader has in his hands the entirety of the provisions in force (without having to refer each time and search for any amendments in subsequent Protocols). Where necessary, they are accompanied by relevant EU regulations (e.g. Reg. 392/2009 on passenger transport, PD 6/2012 on insurance for maritime claims). Specifically, the rules of Rotterdam (which have not been ratified by Greece) are presented in both English text and Greek translation.

The work aims to comprehensively cover the teaching needs of the subject at undergraduate and postgraduate level and to better serve the research needs of legal practitioners.
