Description

The "crimes of the powerful" constitute a relatively new analytical category in Criminology, specifically under the scientific example of Critical Criminology. We are talking about a wide range of crimes that until the 1970s were either not considered crimes or were not given the proper significance.

In contrast to traditional Criminology, which focuses its analysis on individuals, the theory of crimes of the powerful places various "systems of power" and entities-actors at the center. "Crimes of the powerful" include crimes of the state, the private sector, as well as their collaborations, the actions of organized crime, and aspects of corruption, which in our era have a clearly symbiotic and functional relationship.

This book brings together in a single volume theoretical approaches and critical assessments regarding the causes, specific manifestations, and treatment of crimes of the powerful, from the perspective of Criminology, as well as criminal and public law. Our goal is to capture the problematic nature of crimes that are at the center of social, economic, and political crises in our era, especially in Greece.

Esteemed academics and young specialized scientists contribute to this work, which is aimed at undergraduate and postgraduate students, researchers of these phenomena, and professionals in the criminal justice system (judicial officers, police officers, public and private sector executives). It aspires to stimulate a substantive dialogue on the causes and policies for addressing crimes of the powerful.
