Description

A new series is inaugurated by S@mizdαt editions, with works of Russian drama, with the aim of bringing great works of Russian theatrical tradition closer to the Greek reader.
The curtain of the S@mizdαt/θ series opens with the play by Mikhail Bulgakov "Bliss or the Dream of the Engineer Rane", which belongs to the cycle of works dedicated by the master of Russian literature to Anti-utopia.

A disoriented engineer, Rane, discovers a time machine that allows its passengers to travel back and forth in time. As the plot unfolds, the engineer and other heroes find themselves in the perfectly organized society of the future, where the lives of commissioners, Ivan the Terrible, perpetually present bureaucrats, and the strange creatures who do everything to charm the power and enjoy small privileges are intertwined.
This work had a difficult journey in Russian drama. While it was written on commission, the first reading caused discomfort to the managers of Soviet culture and it was not staged until many years after the creator's death.
An aristocrat of the spirit and a worker of writing, Mikhail Bulgakov dedicated his life to Russian literature and drama, but he had the sad privilege of seeing his works banned and his novels relegated to the drawers of state literary editions. History took a long time to vindicate him, something that came decades after his death, thanks to the diligent efforts of his last wife, as well as the few faithful initiates in his work, curators, and critics.
