Description

In 2019, Orthodoxy is in extreme danger. In October 2018, the Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate decided to grant autocephaly to the schismatic Orthodox Church of Ukraine, without the consent of the Moscow Patriarchate, which had jurisdiction over the Church of Ukraine since 1686, and without the approval of any other local Church. After the action of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, the Moscow Patriarchate unilaterally severed ecclesiastical communion, which is the beginning of the schism.
The Church of Greece and indirectly the Hellenic Republic are called upon to take a position on the granting of autocephaly to the schismatics of Ukraine, where geopolitical rivalries and political expediencies are involved. Any decision will have implications for Greece's relations with Russia and the United States, and for the Greek Church's relations with other Churches, mainly with the Moscow Patriarchate and/or the Ecumenical Patriarchate.
However, in 2019, it inherits from 2018 the consequences of the actions of the Church leaders. The Archbishop reached an agreement with A. Tsipras, detrimental to the lives of the priests and harmful to the Church's property. At the same time, he showed an incomprehensible irresponsibility in the Macedonian issue and did not stand by the 22 Bishops of Macedonia.
In view of these critical issues, it was deemed appropriate to write this work, which combines journalistic research with the presentation of information from the relevant historical, ecclesiastical, and geopolitical study of both the Ukrainian ecclesiastical issue and the situation of all local Orthodox Churches.
