In this new edition of the book "Sustainable Tourism Development and Environment", the content - as well as the structure and the contents - have been fully updated based on developments and data of the last fifteen years.

Specifically:
- In all chapters, the content and bibliography have been revised and updated.
- New examples and case studies have been added everywhere.
- Two new chapters have been added on issues that are now extremely important for Sustainable Tourism Development: the fifth chapter entitled "Tourist Destinations and Local Governance: Formation Factors, Sustainability Issues" and the twelfth chapter entitled "Tourism and Climate Change. Modern Environmental Challenges".
- The fifth chapter of the first part in the first edition, which dealt with developments in Modern Tourism, has been moved to the end - also revised and enriched as the fifteenth chapter entitled "Tourism Development, main issues of analysis and research trends in the coming years" - composing and recording the approach of the two authors to future developments in the Tourism Sector.
- Overall emphasis was placed on the revised structure and composition and the scientific data of the book in order to meet the needs of undergraduate and postgraduate students as well as those with a broader interest in the topics we discuss.

Finally, the authors consistently argue that a modern research monograph, which can also have the characteristics of an educational handbook, should allow the reader through the analysis, argumentation, examples, and bibliography, a second personal journey of research and reflection.
