Description

"Every painting tells us a story." Nine winter days in Istanbul in 1591. The Sultan, in view of the thousandth anniversary of the Hijra, asks the best miniaturists and calligraphers of his court to secretly create a book that will glorify the Ottoman Empire - however, he wants the illustrations of the work to be done according to the techniques of the Franks, which is an insult to Islam. Shekure, mother of two unruly young boys, wishes to remarry, as the fate of her husband, who went to war, has been unknown for four years. In her home, she watches the miniaturists paint, under the supervision of her father. Soon, a miniaturist will be murdered, and then the Chief Miniaturist will be called to discover the murderer within three days, according to the Sultan's order. Meanwhile, the miniaturists and calligraphers gather in the evenings at a coffeehouse and are entertained by the sharp-tongued stories of a folk storyteller. Could the murder be due to professional rivalry, romantic jealousy, or religious fanaticism? "My Name is Red" - a book by Nobel Prize-winning author Orhan Pamuk about art and artistic dedication, love and death, as well as the relationship between the East and the West - combines the philosophical with the detective novel in a fascinating way.

This edition is accompanied, for the first time in the Greek language, by the Afterword written by the author twelve years after the book was first published, as well as a Timeline of the historical events mentioned in the novel.
