Adonis is a solar hero who had a triumphant career and was worshipped as a god in Phoenicia, Asia Minor, Cyprus, and Greece since the time of the Peloponnesian War. He was worshipped as a god who died and was resurrected every year - just like all the other similar gods such as Mithras, Dionysus, Zagreus, and others. Many authors who mentioned the sacred myth of Adonis agree that they saw the Sun in Adonis, and in his death, his return to our hemisphere, with parallel symbolism of the spiritual resurrection of man. The ceremonies of the worship of Adonis, known as the Adonia mysteries, had a great impact. The entire population participated in his death and resurrection.
