The main objective of this study is to identify the origins, mutations, and contemporary manifestations of the phenomenon of financialization, which is due to the regulatory failure of global economic governance institutions in addressing the general effects of economic globalization and specifically the subsequent financial crisis of 2007/8.
Additionally, an initial assessment is made of the efforts to control the phenomenon of financialization after the crisis, at a global, regional, and national level, with particular emphasis on the European reality. In this context, the impact of post-crisis regulations on the evolution of the specific characteristics of the modern financial system is examined, in order to draw final conclusions regarding whether and to what extent a substantial change has taken place in strengthening its autonomy (national and international) policy against the "markets".
