I did not expect such a difference in fuel consumption! Firstly, because they have a wider width (225) compared to the previous ones (Bridgestone Turanza ER 300 - 215/50/17 95W with E fuel consumption rating), and as many tire experts have told me, the width of the tire is what matters in fuel consumption, which is not true as I have seen in practice, proving how ignorant many professionals and merchants are. Secondly, because these tires are also reinforced like the previous Bridgestone ones, I logically thought that there would be a small difference in fuel consumption, considering that they are relatively heavy tires due to the load index (94) and XL (extra load) indication. But in the end, I didn't weigh them and it wasn't necessary. It's worth noting that my manufacturer (Opel Astra H GTC 1.3 CDTI diesel) recommends tires with load-speed indexes of 91V, which are usually lighter than the reinforced tires I had and still have, therefore supposedly with lower fuel consumption. The final conclusion is that the famous "fuel consumption rating" really matters, which in this case is A, and even in capital letters. I personally saw at least a 35% or more than 1/3 reduction in fuel consumption, whether you believe it or not, when driving the same 150-kilometer route I've been taking for years for work. These tires have reduced rolling resistance, which means less friction and a longer lifespan. This is also evident from the tachometer, which revs up faster than before, the car takes off and accelerates more easily and quickly, thanks to the reduced rolling resistance and low friction, obviously. They are soft and comfortable on potholes, while I don't have trouble going over curbs. Despite having a low profile (45), they are quiet and comfortable. They perform excellently on both dry and wet roads, inspiring confidence, even when driving on an old rural road in the mountains with many twists and turns, uphill and downhill. I usually drive normally and sometimes fast on curves, and on straight roads, I go up to a maximum of 180 km/h. The tires are still new, so the only thing left to see is their durability over time, although according to Continental, these specific tires have a much longer lifespan, increased by 20% compared to the previous Continental EcoContact 5 tires, and a 15% reduction in fuel consumption. The EcoContact 5 tires already had a long lifespan and low consumption according to the tests I've read. I didn't choose these tires randomly, as I wanted a) low fuel consumption due to the high mileage I drive, b) a long lifespan for the same reason, c) good grip and safety (no tire can save someone driving too fast on a wet road), and d) reinforced tires for more durability over time, on potholes and bad roads. So far, the tires are perfect. I believe I made the perfect choice for the price of 350 euros, including balancing. I found them in stock, brand new, produced in the second week of 2020. Only time will tell about their durability... until next time!
