Description

All societies, from antiquity to modern times, educate their members in such a way that they become carriers-continuers of the specific form of social organization and thought. 

This tendency may seem narcissistic, but in essence, it is a deeply rooted instinct of social self-preservation, without this meaning that efforts for renewal and improvement of living conditions are not encouraged.

The course of Essay-Expression is nothing more than a written confirmation of the understanding of structures, problems/phenomena, and generally the institutions and functioning of society, as well as the correct use of linguistic symbols of communication and the rules of our language. 

The initiation of students into identifying and recording the main points of a text, recognizing various literary genres, various forms of speech and expression depending on the required communication context, as well as their exposure to different methods of persuasion and ways of developing reasoning-arguments are also goals of teaching the Essay-Expression course, as they help the student in better organizing their thoughts and more correctly and effectively expressing their opinions.

According to the new method of Essay examination, a summary of a given text is required (25 points), followed by open-ended questions (free development), short answer questions, objective type questions (such as "true-false", multiple choice, matching, etc.), style, syntax, structure, comprehension, etc. (25 points). 

Students are also required to produce their own text of about 600 words on a concept/problem/situation, either in the form of an essay or within a specific communication context (e.g., article, speech, dialogue, letter, interview, etc.) (50 points).

The specific books "Logou Spoudi" (Volumes A and B) have been written based precisely on the above triptych of requirements of the new type of Essay-Expression examination and, in terms of content/concepts it deals with, are adapted to the thematic units of the new school book of Essay-Expression for the 3rd Grade of Lyceum.

Specifically, this manual includes:

1. Theory, and more analytically:

a) Theory and applications for the "Paragraph" and the "Summary".

b) Theory and examples of the "Typology" of all exercises that may be required, accompanied by the sections "Persuasion" and "Essay and other literary genres" of the school book.

c) Theory and examples for the "Text Production" and "Sources of Arguments", so that the candidate can respond to any type of Essay required and answer briefly, accurately, and comprehensively to any question posed.

d) Theory and models for the specific "Communication Context", which has been a requirement in recent years regarding how the essay topic will be developed in "Text Production".

2. Thematic units: Specifically, the book, in addition to all the concepts / thematic units of the new school book for Composition-Expression for the 3rd Grade of Lyceum, also contains some additional ones. Within each of these, Introductory elements are provided, essential knowledge for each concept, Assessment criteria with their answers, which can constitute complete "exams" and be utilized for teaching needs or written tests, as well as Parallel texts for processing and further practice of the candidates at home.
