It is a common belief to repeat that the Odyssey is an unsurpassed poem, both for the value system that governs it and for the amazing way it is composed and presented. Difficulties arise in teaching it to twelve-year-old children, if it is not limited to a fairy tale. However, the interpretive effort of its ideas, as well as its art and technique, is also a challenge, because the degree of success of an interpretive teaching can determine the relationship of young students with literature, given that the Odyssey is the first literary work systematically studied by children.
