Description

2086: The end of the world. A mysterious Call leads the last humans to the Acropolis of Athens. When another member of the community formed there dies, George from Crete, the only companion of the young narrator, remains, the so-called William Shakespeare, an immortal man. Shakespeare still remembers how the world was when people could still have children or simply swim in the rivers. The young man "has never seen the cloudless sky".

With their memories as a guide and excerpts from texts by great writers, the two last humans try to discover the causes of the disappearance even of those who had gathered a little earlier next to the Caryatids. Does a catastrophe need, Santiago Amigorena wonders, for man to be mobilized by the beauty of a simple rose?

Author, director, and screenwriter - "My Last Words" are transferred to the cinema in 2019 with protagonists Nick Nolte, Charlotte Rampling, and Stellan Skarsgård - the French-Argentinean Santiago Amigorena (b. 1962) through the adventure of the last humans deals, as translated by Titika Dimitroula, with "various expressions of dystopia in literature and cinema, in their mythical and philosophical dimensions".

Two important texts play a crucial role in highlighting these dimensions: Hyperion by Friedrich Holderlin, referred to in the epigraph by Anastasia Antonopoulou, and The Centaur by Maurice de Guerin, included in the edition translated by Sotiris Skipis.
