Having gone through the sacred struggle from the day the flag of freedom was raised in Psara until the end of the year 1829, when the struggle ceased, I always intended, during this period of the struggle, to narrate, after its end, the events that I saw with my own eyes. And convinced by the urging of my friends, I continued, after the completion of the Memoir of the island of Psara, to publish certain campaigns and naval battles in which I participated.
