Description

At the end of the 1970s, the declaration of the death of ideologies was based on the collapse of the major blocks of totalitarian thinking that had been formed since the late 19th century and had organized the great disasters of the following century. However, ideology, as a mental and collective position, never dies. Declaring its death is like ignoring the fact that ideology is not defined only by its content, but by a peculiar, repetitive, and disseminated psycho-mental position, which far from having lost any of its strength, was destined to become even stronger, radical, and deadly, especially today.

Based on the clinical practice of psychotherapy and psychoanalytic work in a group context, the book explains how the ideological position is formed and how it transforms in the work of mourning triple subjection: to the all-powerful Ideation, to the structural or inhuman Ideal, and to the alienating Idol. The analysis expands with the examination of the conditions for its transmission in the study of extreme and deliberately destructive ideologies, those of the dark period in Europe in the 1970s-1980s, or the dictatorships in Latin America, or those that seem to be directing the mass terrorist actions of jihadists today.
