Ancient Greek religion worshiped the Gods and the Demons, which were synonymous. However, the worship of Heroes, which was reorganized during the time of Draco, was unknown. Since then, with the blessings of the Delphic oracle, Hero worship has spread widely. There was no city or village or guild that did not have its patron Hero. Around them, a huge network of myths is woven, and there is a widespread belief that Heroes are helpers of humans. And the popular belief is so great that, as Herodotus says, the pious attributed their victory against the barbarians to them, and the Persian magi made libations to the Heroes buried in Troy. The spread of Christianity theoretically marked the end of Hero worship. We say theoretically because in reality, Christianity replaced it with Saint worship, and over time, all the powers and qualities of their predecessors were attributed to the Saints. Thus, the worship of Heroes survives to this day.
