Description

The protagonist of the book, a humble postman, narrates in first person his story, which takes place in a mountainous community in post-war Crete. A sensitive observer of a harsh reality, the postman is influenced and treated by society, by encounters with deceivers, by unrequited loves, and ultimately by a married life filled with secrets and lies - until one day he awakens and becomes the protagonist himself, leading the narrative to a complete plot twist and propelling it towards a dramatic catharsis.

Love and its possibilities, the strict limitations of customs in the mountain heights, memory, love, and death unfold with a poetic language, of rare maturity in our prose - a language that does not allow room for emotion to "swallow" the narrative. The language itself becomes a protagonist of the book, forcefully bringing back the question of authentic literature.

From the last paragraphs of this excellent and rightfully awarded novel! The mountainous province, the silence, the father. An absolute example of literature with straightforwardness, without unnecessary embellishments. The book that stood out for me last summer!
