Description

In a crowded restaurant, the counselor of the canton of Zurich, Isaac Koller, fatally shoots his friend and professor of German literature, Vinter, in front of everyone present, including political and artistic figures of the place. Koller is arrested, tried, and sentenced to twenty years in prison. A few months later, he asks a young, inexperienced lawyer to visit him in prison. There, he assigns him to reexamine his case, starting from the assumption that he is not the murderer. The young lawyer accepts this seemingly illogical assignment but takes a long time to realize that he has fallen into a trap set by Justice itself.

Friedrich Dürrenmatt's "Justice" has been characterized as the culmination of four hundred years of European thought on the issue of Justice. It is a multi-layered text that constantly raises questions that captivate the reader, mobilizing them to seek answers. In its noir atmosphere, the possibilities hidden behind reality become more real than reality itself. The perpetrator is confused with the victim. Justice has taken on its drowsy appearance, and all it cares about is saving its moral facade. Now, only a guilty person can deliver justice to the guilty Koller...

The best I have read from Durrenmatt. I was looking for it for years since it was sold out and reissued in Greek after three decades. At its core is the author's main theme, the concept of justice, which is also the title of the book. Favorite
