Description

Texts of theoretical and political warfare, which attempt to answer the question "What are the Media?" - and what should, what can we do with them?
In the first part, D. K. Psychogiós explores the question using the tools of semiotics and the positive sciences. Based on the fundamental concepts of communication theory (information, message, meaning, sign, symbol, sender, receiver, hardware, software), he reaches conclusions that are not entirely trivial: that in mediated communication, the receiver has primacy, that the Media are important for understanding the concepts of time and knowledge, that the wealth of societies will increasingly depend on the use of the Media - but in Greece, we fear the media and knowledge.
In the second part, the author argues, in a combative, analytical, and often humorous way, against conspiracy theories and media phobia, as well as against the "poorly written" texts of the press, radio, and television. He argues that the discussion about the media in our country is dominated by the political will to control them and by the violence of competition among media enterprises. He describes the functions of the media, referring to specific incidents, so that by answering the question "What are the Media?" we can come to appreciate them, learn to handle them correctly - and love them.
The thoughts developed here continue in the book "Print Media: From Clay to the Internet," which studies the evolution of the Media and their current state, and in the book "Words and Numbers," which deals with the emergence of alphabetic writing and its relationship to mathematical and scientific notation systems.
