Description

This work is an attempt to fill a gap in Greek literature regarding contemporary trends in systems theory. As the pace of societal change increases, it becomes increasingly difficult to classify social phenomena, leading many researchers to resort to easy descriptors such as "chaos" or "crisis." However, modern systems theory, as developed in the second half of the 20th century by German sociologist Niklas Luhmann (1927-1998), can provide theoretical tools for analyzing and classifying contemporary phenomena in the 21st century, but only through a radical change in the theoretical model (paradigm). Thus, in recent years, there has been increased international interest in modern systems theory, manifested in the proliferation of relevant publications, while the extensive work of Niklas Luhmann is now systematically translated into English. Systems theory, as a "meta-theory" and a metatheory, can offer explanations - as well as solutions - to problems that are initially considered unsolvable, such as the problem of governing complex modern societies, multinational organizations, political parties, and interpersonal relationships.
This book was written in an effort to be understandable by both experts and first-year students, as well as anyone else interested in new approaches to old and new problems.
