The book presents the 88 tobacco warehouse buildings, of which 56 still exist today in the city of Thessaloniki. During the 20th century, the largest city in Macedonia developed into the main tobacco trading center in Greece, with the trade and processing of tobacco leaves contributing significantly to the city's economy. The tobacco warehouse buildings, witnesses of the economic prosperity and development of the tobacco trade activity, played a significant role in shaping the urban landscape and the evolution of the local communities that surrounded them, constituting an integral part of Thessaloniki's architectural and industrial heritage. The analysis of their spatial layout, morphology, and construction methods in relation to their construction time explains the peculiarities of their development model and documents their architectural significance and their role in shaping the suburban landscape of the city. Their current condition highlights the importance of their reuse, which is simultaneously addressed at an architectural and urban planning level, given the unique concentration of buildings in selected points of the urban fabric.
