In the background of the scientific problem of the country, essentially, lies the annex or, to be more concise, the muscular function of a large portion of historians who, furthermore, reserve for themselves the evidence of progressive significance. The result of the operation of this "modernizing" historiography is visible to the naked eye at all levels of Greek society. It built a network of distorted mirrors through which it projected interpretations of Greek history, consistent with the official argument of the universal superiority of European becoming. It placed Greek society in the position of the "periphery" in relation to the West and, by extension, evaluated its deviations from the European norm as inherently "traditional", that is, backward and inferior to the progressive phenomenon embodied by the West.
