Description

The most famous book by the great Portuguese author in its most recent and complete version. The genius of Pessoa at its peak.

Anti-novel, biography of Pessoa's closest alter ego, Bernardo Soares, diary, chronicle, a kind of literature in itself; What is the "Book of Disquiet" that propelled its author into the pantheon of the greatest writers of all time and placed him alongside Dante and Shakespeare in Harold Bloom's famous Western Canon?
It was born with the publication in 1913 of an excerpt and continued to be written until Pessoa's death in 1935. It was published 50 years later and, as its creator had left only the title and minimal instructions, often contradictory, since then scholars of the great Portuguese author, editors and translators have composed their own version of its excerpts, presenting their own interpretation of the "Book of Disquiet".
This translation is based on the most recent and accurate Portuguese version, that of the diligent scholar of Pessoa, Richard Zenith, and includes 481 excerpts, the major texts selected by the author himself for the book, as well as texts by Pessoa referring to it.
"What we have before us," writes R. Zenith, "is the dream-book, the despair-book, the anti-book, beyond any literature. What we have in these pages is the genius of Pessoa at its peak."
Thoughts, aphorisms, dreams, stories, descriptions, a magical book that captivates. Each reader, emphasizes the translator of Pessoa, Maria Papadima, can read it "following the numbering devoutly or by randomly opening a page, mixing the excerpts according to the mood of the moment, to compose their own 'Book of Disquiet', creating with its author a new and absolutely modern relationship, ultimately writing their own personal book."

Autobiography without events, fragmentary, unfinished, where resignation is the only way of action and unconsciousness is the basis of life: "If the heart could think, it would stop." It is not a novel, nor a diary, nor a notebook. It is the Book of Disquiet by Fernando Pessoa, one of the most important texts of all time.

"To fulfill a dream, you must forget, no longer pay attention to it. That's why I fulfill it and don't fulfill it. Life is full of paradoxes, like roses with thorns."
