God created the world as a means of communion with Him, but man wanted it exclusively for himself. Instead of reciprocating God's love with his own love, man loved the world as an end in itself. However, the world in itself does not constitute a purpose. Just as food lacks purpose if it is not transformed into life, so the world, by ceasing to reveal God, sank into an endless confusion, into a illogical cycle of temporal succession in which everything constantly changes, gradually disappears, and ultimately dies.
Christianity transcends man's dependence on the world by transforming the world itself into life. And life means participation in God. If the world ceases to be haunted by something, if life ceases to be transformed into communion with the Absolute Meaning, the Absolute Beauty, the Absolute Goodness, then this world not only loses its meaning, but it becomes death.
