Dreams for the future, as well as the lives of a small group of young people from Dervitsiani of the Greek Minority in Albania who attend the Argyrokastro High School, are destroyed when they end up in the underground cells of the Security Police, accused of the naive proclamations they had distributed against the regime.

The theme of the novel is the unbearable physical and mental tortures, the years of forced labor in the dark mines, the unbearable life in the camps and the tragic consequences in case of escape, the persistent efforts to recruit prisoners as collaborators of the Security Police, and a Hellenism that suffocates and groans without being heard by anyone.

A novel about the battle of democracy against totalitarianism, about the very meaning of life, which in the end continues and triumphs.
