All things speak. And the ruins, don't think, they are silent. Their forms, deficient from barbaric acts or from decay, from negligence or unfulfilled intentions, now acquire consequential elliptical expressions.

They address us imperatively or submissively. Sometimes they appear in front of us without asking us, and sometimes they "look" at us, honoring our sensitive curiosity.

Some Monuments, extending their political discourse through the attributive meanings often attributed to the Ruins, dominate us. Does their authority, which seems futile to us over time, hinder our criticism? (T. M.)
