History, Theology, and Philology are three areas of knowledge that, especially when it comes to the Greek region, are interconnected and meet in the broader scientific field of the History of Medieval and Modern Hellenism, and specifically in the History of Greek Intellectual Culture from the Eastern Roman Empire era to the 20th century. 

The History of texts, human contributors, and ideas, and specifically the History of Greek Enlightenment and Scholars, Ecclesiastical History, the editing and philological editing of texts from Byzantine, Post-Byzantine, and Modern Hellenism, the History of Greek Education, Local History of broad or limited geographical areas where Modern Hellenism lived, acted, and developed, are specific scientific fields in which Medieval and Modern Greek Philology and Theology meet under the prism of historical science and vice versa, the Greek History of Middle and Modern Times through philological sources and the Christian Orthodox tradition. All of the above constitute the framework within which the teaching and scientific-writing work of the honored Professor Athanasios E. Karathanasis was carried out.
