Reviews

  • As others have said, one of the worst alarm clocks. I was reluctant to get rid of it earlier and kept it for two years by force. The low volume (1) on the radio was very loud, every time I turned on the radio the volume was by default at maximum and I had to lower it. The alarm clock woke up the dead, the settings were difficult, poor reception on the radio, and in the end, it broke and the leg snapped, so I finally found an excuse to take it to recycling.

One of the worst alarm clocks. In a very short period of time, the buttons stopped working and eventually the alarm clock itself stopped functioning

This is one of the worst radios/alarms on the market!! After one (1) month of owning it, I have the following to say:

    1. The numbers are huge, they just remind me of a ship clock and not a home one, which means it's not suitable for bedside tables, unless you have vision problems!
    2. It is mainly designed to be wall-mounted, as the alternative is a flimsy plastic stand that opens from the back, but it's "hands-off". If you press the buttons on top while closing the alarm in your sleep, you'll break it!
    3. It is extremely difficult to use and program (I'm not a novice in electronics, but it seems like you need a PHD to figure it out).
    4. It has 20 FM presets, but the storage is particularly problematic. Additionally, it only has one button for scrolling up stations and none for scrolling down, meaning that if you want to go from preset 5 to preset 4, you have to go all the way to preset 20 and then start over to reach preset 4...
    5. The batteries are 2 x AAA, but they are completely useless. As soon as you unplug it, it turns off and all the settings are lost, so you have to program it again...
    6. If you set the alarm with the radio, it always wakes you up at volume 16 (on a scale of 1-20), without the ability to pre-set it, resulting in a heart attack every time you wake up...
    7. The power cord is extremely short, about 90 centimeters, so it doesn't reach the socket and requires an extension cord! In comparison, my previous one was 1.6 meters. Shame on the company for cutting corners...
    8. While it should have instructions in Greek, since we are in Europe (supposedly), it only has instructions in English, and a tiny booklet with tiny letters that I needed a magnifying glass to read! From this, I assume it was a parallel import from Bulgaria/Romania and I didn't actually have the promised 2-year warranty.

Because of all these issues, I returned the product to the company, which accepted it without causing any problems.

Conclusion: I am honestly disappointed in AKAI as a brand because I trusted them, but I suffered a big defeat. The company's ambitious plans turned out to be a disaster. It started with great features like USB charging for mobile phones, dual separate alarms, adjustable light intensity in 3 stages, 20 presets, a headphone jack to not disturb your partner with music, and a beautiful minimalist design, but in the end, it ruined everything with poor plastic construction quality, manufacturing mistakes, difficulty in programming, and battery issues that were evident from the first minute. The 1 star I gave it is mostly because the system doesn't allow me to give it zero.

So, every time I see AKAI products on a store shelf, I remember the problems I faced and I ignore them, as my trust in the company has been shaken and I won't buy anything from them again
