This book was written to describe the turn, the second half of the 20th century, in the study of human gender, and indeed with the new name gender, from an object of scientific or psychological observation to a given self-awareness and evolution. No longer opposed, but within the body and soul of each person, gender is no longer just an important issue, it becomes the issue that underlies all claims. Because between the strictly binary gender (male - female) and the new perception of the multiple, fluid or even non-existent gender, the whole world with human beings trying to approach each other, giving as an entrance card their particular and deeper basis of themselves and expecting that this card will be valid and in force.
The book presents all valid views from biology, political philosophy, the three waves of feminism, and finally psychoanalysis, but above all it raises questions that were previously suppressed because they seemed untimely, unacceptable, or dangerous. Because gender has ceased to be a simple theory, it has come down to the street and demands its reconstitution, as it still remains unclear whether in the future it will be downgraded or even disappear, or on the contrary, it will remain forever the bait and lure for the continuation of life not only as a biological entity, but also as a turning point and participation of each person in the world and others.
