Description

In the 100 years since 1917, Red Marks Publishing proudly presents Victor Serge's book "Year One of the Russian Revolution", a reference book for those who want to deeply understand this pivotal moment of the 20th century and the subsequent evolution of the regime in Russia.
"Year One" has a whole adventure behind it. For many decades, it was defamed by the "orthodox" Stalinist wing that dominated the Left. Its copies were confiscated and destroyed in Russia and Eastern Europe. Owning such a book was a reason for persecution in the East and political isolation in the West. However, "Year One" survived: it is translated into many languages and is at the center of discussions among the international radical Left for the 100 years since 1917. Not by chance.
Serge presents the achievements of October not with the cold approach of a personalized analyst, but with the deep identification of a communist intellectual with the labor revolution. Thus, he provides us with the entire historical background for defending the legacy of the Russian Revolution, for resisting the bourgeois ideological and political counterattack that seeks to rid itself of the newborn "child" of 1917 - the first victorious labor revolution - along with the dirty waters of the Stalinist regime that followed.
This specific edition is the only one in Greek that includes both prefaces written by Serge himself for this book, in 1930 and 1938, as well as the epilogue of 1947.

An example of integrity and unwavering faith, Victor Serge's narrative of the first year of the Russian Revolution - through its achievements and challenges - portrays the heroism of the masses who rose up and created the Soviet democracy, as well as the terrifying adversities that began to undermine and demolish its historical gains. "Year One of the Russian Revolution" is Victor Serge's attempt to defend the first phase of the revolution against those like Stalin who appropriated its legacy to justify the suppression of any dissenting voice in Russia.
