Description

In the fifth volume, over 625 authors are presented, whom Athanasios Stagiritis has used as sources to compile the material of "Ogygia". He says in his prologue: "The new aids of the Europeans are many and diverse, some of them dealing with the whole subject matter in a comprehensive and concise manner, while others dealing partially with a part of this diverse and varied material, so that only books on Mysteries were written in multiple volumes, as well as on Feasts, Oracles, and others. But these have the original sources preserved from which they were compiled."
He traveled to several libraries to find the aids he refers to. He cross-referenced these aids with the original sources: "So, I read both these and the sources, taking the originals from the original sources, as many as I deemed sufficient for the clarity of that genre; and from those, only the judgments regarding the disputed matters. Where the matter appears clear and does not admit doubt, I used only the originals, as it seems everywhere, and as I mentioned about them in the Proem of the second volume."

This edition is the rendering in plain modern Greek with careful clarification and detailed annotation of the Greek and European authors listed in over two and a half thousand bibliographical footnotes. Also, information is provided about them and their works that are missing from the original edition.
