Did you find this review helpful?The R41 was my first razor, (no joke, as the reason I started traditional shaving was for a good, close shave (without many passes), something that the supermarket razor or electric shaver could not offer me).
Basically, it requires a little experience and trials with various blades until you find the one that suits you.
It is a beauty.
(For my second razor, I chose the 6S for a more comfortable and faster shave and with the ability to choose the plate according to the needs of each moment).
The blade I combine with the R41 is the Feather.
Although I thought it would be too much with a very sharp blade, after trials first with other blades, it turned out FOR ME to be the best combination with Feather.
No cuts, no irritations.UPDATE Now, after a few months of trials with other razors and blades, and after improving my technique, it has become my main razor, even with a day's worth of growth.
In combination with the Astra Blue Superior Stainless. (while the green one, which is particularly beloved by most, did not work as well for me, I found enjoyable, deep, and trouble-free shaves with the blue).

Many people consider it to be a close comb razor, but it is not. It requires great attention and is not recommended for beginners or as a first razor.
I have only used it with an Astor blade, and it provides an amazing close shave and a smooth glide for the first pass. You don't even feel the blade, it's like being embraced by a cloud, really...
Its weight is exactly what it should be. As for the finish, I wanted it to be a bit more pronounced for better grip.
Although what I will say about the Muhle R41 is subjective for some, it does a better job than the Merkur futur...

I started with the Merkur 34 which was quite good but it needed 3-4 passes for the desired result, especially in difficult areas. So, I decided to take the step for the R41. First shave with an aggressive blade, no cuts, and with one pass you're perfect! Personally, because I don't have very dense facial hair, I don't do a second pass with the R41. If you get this razor, I don't think you need to bother with other razors unless you like to have them as a collection.

Did you find this review helpful?Incredible machine. I started as a beginner with a NIPAVO for 12 euros, which I kept for 3 years until I got the Muhle. Every shave I had cuts and irritations. On the contrary, the Muhle R41, which is considered to be the most aggressive, did not cut or irritate me. It made my shaving faster, I didn't feel the blade (unlike the NIPAVO), and with one pass it shaved my entire head without leaving any hair behind. It was tested with the same soap and the same blades. With this one, I can comfortably shave every day. I highly recommend it.

Did you find this review helpful?As a beginner in traditional shaving, I had cuts in the beginning. However, it turned out that the problem was that I was using a shaving cream without a lubricating substance (lanolin) that dried out in a few minutes. I continued to use the same cream, but by adding water more frequently, I ended up with no cuts. My Mach3 forgave me for this.
Also, with the single blade, I never had ingrown hairs, while with multi-blade heads, the hair can be cut below the surface of the skin, especially if the head is old, the first blade can pull the hair and the second can cut it deeply.
The razor is not made of stainless steel but of brass, which is why the instructions warn to be careful not to break the thread when tightening.
The handle is shorter than that of the Mach 3 and it slips a little more since it doesn't have rubber.
I wonder how many years I shaved with those Gillette Blue 2 disposable razors that are not suitable for dense and thick facial hair. With Mach 3, much better but also with ingrown hairs and higher cost. Due to marketing, I considered traditional shaving to be dangerous and old-fashioned...

The razor is an open comb type and is considered very aggressive (effective, but you can easily cut yourself if you are not experienced). Especially in YouTube videos, some claim that this razor is a butcher and the most aggressive razor today.
The truth is that while it is indeed an aggressive razor (compared to mild ones like the Edwin Jagger DE89 or the Muhle R89), it is a completely manageable razor that can give you a close and proper shave with some conditions and a little attention.
It is for people who will dedicate some time to learn how to use it.
IT IS NOT FOR DAILY USE!!!
If you wake up at 6:00 in the morning to go to work and shave with your cup of coffee and cigarette on the sink, forget about it. This razor is for 2, maybe 3 shaves per week. Otherwise, using it daily will cause irritation to your skin.
I will digress to tell you that the old razors (from the 50s, 60s, and 70s) were MUCH more aggressive. Back then, with one razor, you could go for 2 months, so the razor had to cut well, meaning it had to be aggressive. Think about how difficult it was to find razors in a mountain village with nonexistent transportation. I have a butterfly-adjustable Gillette razor from 1968, model 195 (FAT BOY), and even in the mildest setting (1 out of 9), it requires great care not to cut yourself.
If you have even a little experience with traditional shaving, do not be afraid of it. It will give you a very close shave and a nice feeling on Saturdays and Sundays. On other days, the difficult workdays, prefer a mild razor.
It is worth the money. Excellent construction and finish for a lifetime. With a little care, it will give you enjoyable shaves.
I recommend it without hesitation, as long as you meet and respect the above conditions.

I had the old one that was available until 2013 but it broke due to a fall (it got bent). The new one that I bought, meaning the one that is currently available, is less aggressive compared to the old one. 8/10 for the new model, the old one had a 9/10 aggressiveness. I shave my face, head (once a week), armpits, chest, groin area (once every 3 weeks), and never legs and arms.

Along with the use of pre-shave and shaving soap, I have no issues with cuts or irritations. So far, I have tried it with Muhle and Feather blades.
I should also mention that it requires great caution. It is really easy to cut yourself, and quite badly, if you apply too much force or if you don't hold it correctly, so those who don't have a steady hand or are in a rush probably won't find this one convenient. The machine is great, it gives a close shave if you have some experience, it doesn't cause any cuts or irritation, it's very easy to clean, and I can tell that the construction is more durable than the Merkur. Personally, when I used it with the most aggressive feather blade, the shaving experience was enjoyable. I also use it for shaving my whole body and the pubic area with absolute safety, with the advantage that it can handle a larger volume of hair in one pass.
