This book covers the basic theoretical background of electro-optical systems, the terminology used, and their respective applications. Among other things, it includes simple radiometric calculations, topics on infrared (thermal) and visible spectrum target signatures, the effect of the atmosphere on optical radiation, a description of simple optical arrangements, an explanation of the main laser systems, the characteristics of various types of photodetectors with their corresponding cooling requirements, digital image processing issues, electro-optical counters and anti-counters, as well as some applications of millimeter and submillimeter waves.
