Description

The "Players" in Vasilis Konstantinou's novel starred on the political and economic stage, as well as behind the scenes of the major events of the 20th century. They marked the outcome of World War II by early sensitizing the victor to the possibilities of atomic research applications. In the intrigues preceding the war, leading historical players were the American-British Samuel Insull, king of US energy, and the Greek industrialist, arms dealer, and national benefactor Vasilis Zaharoff. Sir Basil, a decorated banker and prime minister of the Allies in World War I, launches the battle for access to uranium and heavy water reserves through underground routes and spy networks. The spearhead is the adopted son of Zaharoff, Michael Doukas, a Greek born on the Bulgarian shores of the Black Sea. His dangerous actions, missions, and loves transcend his Balkan origin. They lead him to Europe and America, where he will encounter the events that affected the war and the balances of nuclear terror.

In this novel, Michael Doukas unfolds the thread of an era composed of the first months of the Occupation in Northern Greece, the world of Greek tobacco merchants, nuclear research laboratories, and centers for the design of military and secret operations.
The author intertwines politics with the personal stories of the protagonists, creating a well-crafted novel with thriller elements.
