With this phrase, Anestis Konstantinidis, publisher, began his preface to the first edition of the Dictionary "Great Dictionary of the Greek Language" by H. G. Liddell, R. Scott, A. Konstantinidis in 1904. Since then, the Dictionary has become part of our cultural heritage and a valuable tool even today, after more than 100 years.

However, because the volume and nature of this wise work rarely allowed it to leave the large libraries and university study rooms, "Pelekanos" publications undertook the publication of its abridged version, which not only does not omit any of the essential elements of the analytical Dictionary, but also incorporates, as far as possible, the findings of more recent research.

The entries of the Abridged version cover the period from the time of Homer to the period of the Classical Attic creators. Additionally, the Abridged version includes words used in Aristotle, Polybius, and Strabo, in Plutarch's "Lives," in Lucian, in the Poets of the Anthology, and in the authors of the New Testament.
