Description

Very often, dispersion has been the subject of study for its contribution to the country of origin. Rarely is its contribution to the host country examined. This book attempts exactly that: to study the contribution of Greek dispersion in a country with a long history, deep culture, and close relations with our country; Egypt.

Greeks have always been present in this country throughout its long history. However, in recent years, the years of poverty and underdevelopment in our country in the 19th century, humble Greeks left behind their homeland that did not guarantee them a future, embarked on the longest journey of their lives in small boats, and arrived in another country that they made their homeland. They did not go to conquer it as colonizers, because they could not. They went to build a new homeland that they would make their country.

The colonizer draws his strength from his country of origin; the Egyptian from his desire to make the host country his home. And yet, he was also treated as a colonizer when the end of foreign rule came in Egypt. A colonizer without a metropolis to protect him when he was uprooted from his new land. A stranger in his own country, as the author points out, who approaches the subject with particular sensitivity and comprehensiveness, utilizing and organizing a rich archival material. And this is not the only reason to read this book.
