Sophocles is the second of the trio of great poets of ancient Greek dramatic poetry. He presents idealized characters in his works that serve as models for human behavior. The plot of his works is highly technical and the delineation of the characters is vivid and lively. From his rich body of work, we have seven tragedies: "Ajax", "Antigone", "Electra", "Oedipus the King", "Trachiniae", "Philoctetes", "Oedipus at Colonus".

The overall editing of the volume was done under the supervision of the philologist Th.G. Mavropoulou and includes: a foreword by the publisher Konstantinos Zitros, an introduction by the author to ancient Greek dramatic poetry and the poet, the ancient Greek text, its translation, philological comments on the work, analysis of the work, topics - questions for further editing of the text, anthology of the work, bibliography related to the work, and an index of terms and names.
