Two monumental works of political satire by the most sensitive politically and socially American writer of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th. In the first one, "The Monologue of King Leopold", Mark Twain denounces the criminal governance of King Leopold II of Belgium in the Congo; in the second one, he mocks the weak Tsar of Russia, Nicholas II, who, having just drowned a peaceful protest in blood outside the Winter Palace, feels his power shaken and seeks support in the emblems of his office. Two excellent examples of political vigilance and literary courage.
